Cooking is an essential everyday activity that not only involves practical skills, but also offers opportunities for learning, cooperation and social bonding within families, friends and communities.
However, cooking together often results in an unequal amount of participation, where one person usually assumes control while the others remain passive and this is especially true for young children. Real kitchen environments can be unsafe and overwhelming, which limits their opportunities to actively engage and learn in the cooking process.
To address this, we focus on the design of a physical-digital hybrid educational game that introduces young children to cooking-related activities in a safe, cooperative, and playful manner.
