MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THE BACHELOR AND MASTER INDUSTRIAL DESIGN

Much of what you encounter in everyday life has been designed. Whether it is your smartphone, how the shelves in the supermarket are arranged or your sneakers; the design has always been thought through. However, despite the name, the Industrial Design program goes a step further than traditional product design. Industrial Design is about innovation, creativity, technology, user experience, aesthetics, societal transformation and corporate interest.

WHAT'S IN THE BACHELOR PROGRAM?

You learn to design interactive systems, products and services that make our lives better, more social or simply more comfortable. Examples of projects that you could be working on are smart home systems, smart clothing and motivational games. As an Industrial Design student you learn to translate new technologies and societal trends to innovations for everyday life.

WHAT'S IN THE MASTER PROGRAM?

The goal of the two-year Industrial Design master’s degree program is to turn you into a self-starting industrial designer with a unique skills profile. Together with your coaches, you will develop this profile based on your identity, your perspective of design, technology and society, your professional ambitions and the areas of expertise you want to master.

TRACKS IN THE MASTER PROGRAM

The tracks are based on job opportunities for industrial design graduates, preparing you for your entry into the job market or academy. You can choose the track that matches your professional ambitions.

Research, Design and Development: Are you aiming to work in the R&D or design department of a large company or government institute?
Design Leadership and Entrepreneurship: Are you a future design manager or entrepreneur?
Constructive Design Research: Are you looking to contribute to the international design research community?

This multidisciplinary approach allows you to develop a broad insight in designing interactive systems, products and services. You focus on the users, their demands, the design and the technical possibilities.

STUDY ACTIVITIES

To support the development of your unique profile, you will choose courses and projects that match your vision, ambitions and specialization. You have the responsibility to shape your own development and the power to select the majority of your course program, of course under the supervision of your coaches. In addition to two mandatory courses and electives, the backbone of this course program is made up of projects.

PROJECTS

In our competence-based educational approach, you immediately apply what you learn. In authentic design or research projects you will integrate the knowledge, skills and mindset you learn in your areas of expertise. In addition, you will develop your academic and professional skills while working on your projects, often in collaboration with a ‘real’ client – a company, government institute or NGO.

INTERNATIONAL AND TIGHT COMMUNITY

We maintain strong relations with companies such as Philips, Daimler, Canon and Accenture, organizations such as the Maxima Medical Center, TNO (Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research) and the Dutch Province of North Brabant, and, finally, with educational institutions way beyond the European borders.

This allows us to respond to international developments. During ours programs, you are also supervised by international employees and collaborate with international students. In addition to being internationally oriented, the Industrial Design community is also tight, thanks to the study association Lucid and the squads that allow you to collaborate with staff and students from different academic years.
